FAQs for Daytrippers
1. Can reservations be made for meals at Lionfish Grill?
Yes, we gladly welcome daytrippers for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, provided the island is not privately rented. However, meal reservations are essential. For dinner, please reserve by 3pm at the latest to enable our kitchen to prepare accordingly.
2. Is the pool accessible?
Yes, the Lionfish Grill pool on the public side of the island is open to daytrippers.
3. Can we book tours at Pirate Reef Dive Shop?
Absolutely! Based on availability, you can book dive or snorkel tours by email, VHF channel 11, or in person.
4. Is slide usage permitted?
The slide is in the resort guest area. However, if in-house occupancy is low, daytrippers may be allowed a turn with staff approval.
5. Do you sell provisions or wholesale beverages?
Yes, beer, soda, and water by the case are available at the Dive Shop. Other dry goods may be available at the chef’s discretion.
6. Is there a day pass for the island?
No official day pass is offered. Guests dining at the restaurant are welcome to enjoy the beach and pool before or after their meal.
7. Can we rent kayaks, snorkel gear, and paddleboards from Ray Caye?
Yes, rentals are available to daytrippers based on availability.
8. Is there a restroom fee?
No, restroom use is complimentary for patrons of our shops, bar, or restaurant.
9. Do you have island showers?
No. Fresh water is limited, so showers are not available to daytrippers.
10. Is there an emergency phone to reach the mainland?
Yes, an emergency phone is available at the Welcome Center to contact the mainland office.
11. Can ice be purchased on the island?
Yes, ice is sold by the bag, but is subject to availability. During dry season, it may be limited.
12. How many mooring balls are available?
4 to 6 mooring balls are available around the island, on a first-come, first-served basis.
13. What are the mooring fees?
Inner reef: $25 USD per night. Outer reef: $15 USD per night. Pay at the Dive Shop.
14. Are massages available for daytrippers?
Yes they are, subject to availability. Advance booking is recommended.
15. Is there a second restaurant and bar on the island?
Yes, there is, but the secondary restaurant, bar, and pool are exclusive to resort guests.
16. Is fuel available for purchase on the island?
Yes, both gasoline and diesel are available at the island’s service station.
17. Do you provide transportation to the island for day trippers?
No, unfortunately we don’t, but we have provided a list of guides and captains that you can contact to arrange transportation, please see below.

If you’re planning a day trip from Placencia but Ray Caye is fully booked or not quite the right fit for your day group, Moho Caye offers another incredible island escape.
Just 12 miles east of Placencia, Moho Caye is a 12-acre private island framed by swaying palms, soft white sand, and clear blue water. Located near the protected Laughing Bird Caye National Park, this secluded paradise is perfect for snorkeling, swimming, beachcombing, or simply relaxing in a postcard-perfect setting.
It’s a great alternative for groups looking for a laid-back, nature-filled day on the water—and for the adventurous, overnight camping is also an option.
